The beauty of online therapy is that you can be anywhere! Research shows that the effect of therapy isn’t actually any different if you are in-person or doing online therapy. What really matters is the relationship with your therapist, which is why fit is so important.

Online therapy or video psychotherapy works the same as in-person in most ways. Together, we’ll identify the areas of your life that you want to work on knowing that “I don’t know” is an acceptable answer. I support client’s in leaning into the parts of you that have been hidden for so long. I interweave different tools including mindfulness, somatics (body based work), brainspotting, and connection through the therapy relationship to support you in exploring what your own needs are.

You don’t have to feel like you’re walking in a fog all the time.

You can decrease anxiety and depression.

You can live an authentic life.

Hi, I’m Emily, I provide online therapy in California.

I love working with folks through video psychotherapy because it’s a great way to see a therapist without the hassle and overwhelm of the commute, scheduling issues, or having to leave work. You can curl up on your couch with your dog and warm tea, take a session from the car, or even in between meetings at work - it’s really whatever works best for you. I have a focus in working with the LGBTQ+ community and in particular highly sensitive people (HSP). I’ve found that online therapy can be a great resource for HSPs because it decreases the sensory overload that can often happen when we are in a rush to get somewhere or in a space that doesn’t fit our needs. So whether you’re down in L.A. or up north in Ukiah - I’d love to connect.

+ How does online therapy in California work?

It's very similar to in-person therapy. The only difference is that all you need is a secure internet connection and a computer, phone, or tablet. From there, find a safe, confidential space, and I will provide you with access to the client portal on my website where you can login to join our virtual therapy session each week.

+ What happens if we lose connection?

If we lose internet connection then I will just give you a call and we will continue our session via phone.

+ Do I have to be at home?

You can be wherever feels safe and confidential for you. If that's at home in your PJ's in bed, then that's perfect. If that's in a conference room or your car, that's also great.

+ Is online therapy or video psychotherapy as effective?

While a lot of folks feel like there is a different energy to online therapy, research shows that it is actually just as effective as in-person therapy. What is most important is actually the relationship you have with your therapist. I always stress how important fit is with your therapist, and that is one of the biggest indicators as to how effective therapy will be. Of course you have to put in the work too, but the therapeutic relationship is a really important foundation.

+ Is there anyone who online therapy isn't effective for?

Yes, there are instances where in-person is more appropriate. This includes folks who are actively experience suicidal thoughts or those with severe substance use and eating disorders. In those instances I do recommend seeking in-person treatment or a higher level of care.

+ What is brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a powerful tool that can help individuals move through trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, stress, limiting beliefs and patterns, and so much more. Through brainspotting I help you identify, process, and release emotional experiences that are keeping you stuck. We can use brainspotting in addition to other therapies, or it can be used on it's own. Feel free to reach out to learn more about what a brainspotting session with me can look like!

+ What is your fee for online therapy?

My fee for a 50 minute session is $225.

+ Do you take insurance?

I do not currently accept insurance, so fees cannot be billed directly to your insurance company. I’m happy to provide monthly statements for out-of-network insurance reimbursement. Please contact your insurance company regarding out-of-network coverage verification for mental health services. Reimbursify is a great resource if you need support submitting for reimbursement.

+ Can my dog/cat/hamster/snake/guinea pig join?
